Dear John,
This is Rusty Hicks, California Democratic Party Chair and a proud Navy veteran.
What we are seeing in Los Angeles is purposeful provocation by the Trump Administration.
Donald Trump has classified peaceful protest as a rebellion. Federalized the national guard over the objection of the governor, and even called for the arrest of that governor.
And the latest is to authorize the deployment of active duty military personnel to city streets.
Another sad day. Another line crossed. Another abuse of power.
We’ve got to remember what this is about. This is about control. This about control of institutions and control of communities and a complete betrayal of our American values and our Constitution.
Like many of you, I was proud to wear the uniform. But our service was dedicated to our nation, not to a king, bully, or dictator.
California will not bow to a king.
California will not bend to a bully.
California will not be broken by an authoritarian regime seeking to demonize, divide and destroy.
In this moment, there are a number of ways to make your voices heard.
You can attend a peaceful protest. If you do, please know your rights.
You can stay informed and keep up with the latest in this tragic saga by following us on social media like (Facebook, X, or BlueSky).
Or you can help fund critical organizing programs here at the California Democratic Party. We are standing up mobilization initiatives up and down the state, which are powered through your grassroots contributions.
