Justice & Liberation Fund Grantmaking Committee
Many thanks to our community grantmakers who stewarded a historic $2 million to Black-Led organizing across Minnesota! This group of community leaders, elders, youth, and advocates designed and informed every part of the Justice & Liberation Fund. Minnesotaās Black community is not a monolith and we are proud to have worked with members from all over Minnesota, across sectors, and representative of the Black diaspora. Stay tuned for our official grant announcement next week!

Meet Nico, June's Featured Artist
Our June artist calendar features Nico Sardina, a Minneapolis-based screen printer. Nico operates Kuya Print Co., a print shop focused on local fundraising and artist exhibitions. Formerly concentrated on material experimentation through screenprinting and animation, he now spends his time thinking about production under capitalism, commodity fetishism, and the place of a brand new t-shirt in a global context.
Curated by Sati Varghese Mac, our 2025 artist calendar features 12 visionary and revolutionary BIPOC artists from Minnesota. Each artist connects their works to the fight for collective liberation, responding to the prompt, "What is your vision for your community in the next 40 years?"Ā

š± The Childrenās Gardening Program
Wednesdays, June 11, 18, 25 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Childrenās Gardening Program is a neighborhood program in the Rondo & Frogtown communities of St. Paul. This is a ādrop inā program for neighborhood children ages 5 to 105 years. We tend the garden together, learn some science-based gardening skills, discover things about the food we grow including how to prepare it, and we snack on it!
š "You Only Get What You're Organized to Take": Lessons from Poor People's Movements
Sunday, June 15 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
It's an honor to host co-authors Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis and Noam Sandweiss-Back at CTUL to discuss their new book "You Only Get What You're Organized to Take", which explores the history of poor people's movements in the United States and Rev. Dr. Liz's own journey through poor people's movements! Our panel discussion also include current CTUL leaders to connect these lessons to our current work.

Through a powerful fusion of history, art, music, food, andĀ education, our festival is a transformative platform that unites, empowers, and inspires.Ā We honor the brilliance of Black creatives, businesses, and community organizations,Ā showcasing the profound contributions of Black Americans. By using creativity as a forceĀ for liberation, we build connections, foster learning, and leave a legacy of cultural prideĀ and unity for generations to come.
š 29th Annual Community Peace Celebration
Friday, June 20 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Community Peace Celebration was founded in response to violence that occurred in the Frogtown neighborhood of St. Paul in 1996, a traveling Peace Pole with the message āMay Peace Prevail on Earthā in four languages visited 30 neighborhood sites. In June of 1997, the first Community Peace Celebration (CPC) was held. It brought healing words from community leaders along with music and dance by local performers to cultivate the meaning of Peace and a shared vision of cooperative relationships.

Join Housing in Action's Resources and Relationships Director Paul Vliem for a van tour of North Minneapolis!Ā Learn more about this vibrant community and discuss the historical and present-day reasons the work of Housing in Action is necessary. If you have a desire to be more connected to the work of housing justice, this is a great place to start!Ā Tours are limited to 5 people.
š Minneapolis People's Pride
Saturday, June 28 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Minneapolis Peopleās Pride intends to be a space for all queer folks to experience joy, eat food, trade art, and various other activities. Making space for and feeding queer joy is a radical act of resistance that both uplifts the queer community and resists white supremacist heteropatriarchy. We aim to create a space for rest, collaboration, and love, centering those most marginalized and affected by systemic xenophobia.

Formerly known as Lower Phalen Creek Project, Wakan Tipi Awanyankapi is a Native-Led,Ā East Side environmental stewardship nonprofit centered in Dakota values. Our nameĀ means āthose who take care of Wakan Tipiā. Founded in 1997 by community activists, ourĀ project area stretches from Lake Phalen to the Mississippi River and throughout the EastĀ Side River District. Our work is powered by a dedicated board, staff, and community of volunteers.

The Niibi Center is a repository of Anishinaabe culture and knowledge to protect and advance our prophecy, sovereignty, and cultural survival. The Niibi Center is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, based at the White Earth Reservation and serving all Anishinaabe people.
