Dear John,
I’m writing to share an important update—and an urgent request.
Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, Freedom House has relaunched the China Dissent Monitor, a public database tracking acts of dissent and resistance in one of the world’s most tightly controlled societies.
Despite the Chinese Communist Party’s intensifying repression, dissent in China is both persistent and widespread. Our research exposes the courage of those who speak out—from protests against powerful companies and official corruption to bold expressions of online activism. The China Dissent Monitor fills a critical information gap in a country where transparency is suppressed and media is tightly censored.
Earlier this year, we were forced to suspend the project due to a freeze in US government foreign aid funding. We’re proud to have brought it back—but we only have enough resources to keep it going for the next 60 days.
We urgently need your help to sustain this vital work.
Please click here to pledge your support. Your gift will help us continue documenting dissent, informing policymakers, and amplifying the voices of those who speak out in the face of authoritarian rule.
With gratitude,
Kevin Slaten
