The bill directs the Health and Human Services Department to investigate the deeply concerning marijuana rescheduling process, in which the Biden Administration circumvented existing FDA policy and pushed through its attempt to reclassify marijuana as a Schedule III drug; it also backs research on high-potency marijuana and its effects on the adolescent brain with a focus on addiction and severe mental illness.
It further calls on the FDA to continue its investigative and enforcement efforts against manufacturers and marketers who make unfounded therapeutic claims for products containing marijuana.
These are significant wins for public health against an industry committed to profit above all else. We are beyond proud to have played a central role in making them happen.
