After Judges Drop Asylum Cases, ICE Makes Arrests at Houston Courthouse Federal immigration officers arrested three individuals outside a southwest Houston courtroom this week as part of a broader national crackdown targeting illegal aliens whose asylum cases have just been dismissed. Michael Wilson has the story [[link removed]].

The arrests, which came just moments after government attorneys dropped their pending asylum claims, mark the first time such an operation has been publicized outside an immigration court in the Houston area.

This was part of a nationwide initiative aimed at arresting illegal aliens after their asylum cases are dropped in order to expedite deportations. Trump to Re-rename Central Texas Army Installation Speaking to soldiers at Fort Bragg in North Carolinia, President Donald Trump announced yesterday that he would be restoring the names of several military installations, including Texas' Fort Cavazos. As Brandon Waltens reports [[link removed]], Cavazos had been previously known as Fort Hood since its creation in the early 1940s.

The Central Texas installation was renamed in 2023 by the Biden administration in honor of Gen. Richard Edward Cavazos, a decorated Korean and Vietnam War veteran and the first Hispanic four-star general in U.S. Army history. The renaming happened as part of a broader effort to remove names honoring individuals who were connected to the Confederacy.

President Trump had previously opposed the renaming effort during his first term, vetoing the legislation that created the Naming Commission in 2020. Congress overrode his veto, however, and the commission’s recommendations were later implemented under President Joe Biden.

The post occupies 340 square miles and is home to around 34,500 military personnel and their families, 5,000 contractors, and 4,000 civilian employees. Texas to Launch Nation’s Largest School Choice Program After decades of campaigning by education reform advocates, Texas is set to enact the nation’s largest education savings account program. Ryan Dy-Liacco explains [[link removed]] what will be coming next.

The law takes effect on Sept. 1, 2025, but the program will not launch until the 2026-2027 school year. The program, which has been budgeted $1 billion by the Legislature, will support up to 100,000 students.

Under the law, the comptroller is tasked with implementing the ESA program. Application details are not expected until early 2026. OTHER EDUCATION NEWS

Texas Man Arrested After Allegedly Giving Girlfriend Abortion-Inducing Drug Luca Cacciatore reports [[link removed]] a North Texas man has been arrested after his ex-girlfriend accused him of secretly giving her an abortion-inducing drug, resulting in the death of their preborn child.

Justin Anthony Banta, 38, was booked late last week into the Parker County Jail on a charge from local law enforcement of tampering with physical evidence and a separate charge from the Texas Rangers for capital murder.

The victim discovered she was pregnant in September of 2024 and shared the news with Banta, her boyfriend at the time. He reportedly ordered an abortion-inducing drug for her over the internet, but she intended to keep the baby.

The woman met him at a coffee shop, where Banta reportedly pre-ordered a drink and gave her homemade cookies. She miscarried the baby shortly after. Quote-Unquote

While some of the cash was found, none of the precious metals were recovered. One of the robbers was wounded and detained, but none of the others were ever captured.
