Hi, it’s Ghazala Hashmi, Democrat for VA Lieutenant Governor.

I was humbled to receive this great honor: the Virginia Education Association, representing our Virginia teachers, just named me Legislator of the Year.

I have spent my time in the Virginia State Senate fighting for teachers, students, and schools – and I am grateful educators have found support in my work.

But I’m just getting started.

I’m running for Lieutenant Governor to:

Prioritize fully funding our public schools so all our children can have access to top-notch public schools with modern technology and sufficient staff
Continue to increase support for our educators and for our most vulnerable students, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities
Help educators and students address target areas of inequality, protect vulnerable populations in school, and keep schools gun-free
Ensure accessible and equitable education for all of the Commonwealth’s students

Our students and communities thrive when we expand access to higher learning and career pathways, whether through community colleges, workforce development centers, and public colleges and universities.

I’m proud to know that Virginia Teachers have my back because they know I’ve got theirs.
