Friend,
This past weekend, I was denied entry into the ICE detention center in Lower Manhattan. Without Congressional oversight, the Trump Administration is getting away with detaining innocent New Yorkers. What are they hiding? Why won’t they let Congress do their job?
The answer is: They know what they’re doing is illegal and they are trying to run from the consequences.
Immigrant communities across the country—even here in New York City—have been facing ruthless attacks, from tricking undocumented people into traps for ICE to straight up kidnapping people off the street.
In Los Angeles this past weekend, we saw a scary vision of an America where Donald Trump runs the government like an authoritarian.
The people of Los Angeles were rightfully upset when masked ICE agents showed up to people’s workplaces to detain and try to deport immigrants—but then the president started weaponizing the National Guard, the Marines, and even threatened to arrest the Governor of California.
The violence these ICE agents and the National Guard perpetuated on behalf of Donald Trump was nothing short of terrifying. This administration is officially using the state to instill fear in our immigrant communities and detain innocent people.
This isn’t about safety. This is about control and squashing any sort of dissent against the government.
When the United States—a country built on revolution—starts suppressing protests and kidnapping people with no criminal records off the streets, we are coming dangerously close to a fascist regime.
I am standing tall against this administration’s fascist tactics and fighting for our immigrant communities and right to protest no matter what. Join me.
