Sadly, the great Sly Stone passed away yesterday at 82. Anyone who wants to learn more about the great musical/cultural influence of Stone should watch the Questlove documentary “Sly Lives” on Hulu. I wrote about this powerful film a few months ago. It underscores Sly Stone’s immense impact on popular music and culture. There are many stellar live performances of Sly and The Family Stone that have been preserved on video. But Stone’s performance at Woodstock, with its incendiary groove, will likely be remembered forever. |
