What’s happening in Los Angeles isn’t “immigration enforcement”, it’s a full-blown military occupation targeting immigrant workers that has escalated into an attack on everyone’s right to free speech and protest.

In the middle of one of these violent raids, SEIU California President David Huerta stood in solidarity with immigrant workers. For that, he was hospitalized and then charged with a felony. His so-called crime? “Conspiracy to impede an officer.” This is the criminalization of dissent. It's an attack not just on immigrants, but on every person who dares stand beside them.
ICE is no longer operating under civil authority. Trump’s ICE raids are now backed by the National Guard. Marines have been mobilized. What we’re seeing is not only illegal, it’s unconstitutional. This is persecution. It’s the deliberate use of state violence to terrorize vulnerable people. Congress must not only say no to Trump’s ICE budget, it must defund this terror and dismantle the apparatus that allows it to escalate unchecked.

The arrest of high-profile protestors like David Huerta is not incidental. It’s strategically designed to send a message that if people stand with immigrants, they will be next. That’s the same authoritarian logic used to justify banning protest, purging dissent, and criminalizing solidarity.
Don’t believe for a second this is where it ends. Trump and his allies are laying the groundwork for mass surveillance and mass deportation on a scale we’ve never seen. But they cannot do it without Congress’s funding.
