What Trump is doing in California is authoritarianism, plain and simple.

Donald Trump just deployed the National Guard against the American people without the Governor’s consent — the first time a President has done that since 1965, during the civil rights movement.

As an Army veteran, I know the military should never be used against our own people unless there is absolutely no other choice. Our fellow Americans are not the enemy.

This is a dangerous abuse of power – and it’s Trump’s dress rehearsal for the authoritarian government he wants to implement. He must be held accountable.

I’ve stood up to Trump before. I put my career on the line to blow the whistle on his attempt to extort Ukraine. I’m not afraid to stand up to him again.

But I need to know you’re with me. Speaking out means putting an even bigger target on my back — and with the GOP spending millions to defeat me, I can’t do this alone.
