Hey John — by now, I’m sure you’ve seen the news about the aggressive ICE raids in LA and the wrongful arrest of union leader David Huerta, President of SEIU California. This is truly Trump’s America at its ugliest.
Yesterday, the city came together in solidarity with immigrants outside of the Federal Building. And I was there to stand in support with the tens of thousands of immigrants who are unjustly being targeted by this xenophobic agenda.

I’ve never been more in awe of this city than when we come together and fight for what’s right — the inclusion of every person to live with dignity, respect, and due process under the law.
And I’m happy to share some good news: As of this morning, David Huerta has been released. But this military escalation is simply the next step in Trump 2.0’s fascist takeover, and right now, LA is in the eye of the storm.
Let me be clear: There was absolutely no reason to undermine the Governor of California by calling in the National Guard. There was absolutely no reason to escalate by mobilizing the U.S. Marines. Trump and the Secretary of Defense should immediately rescind the order.
In the meantime, I encourage all of us to be present and active in our communities, because we are stronger together. If you plan on joining protests, and if you aren’t familiar with this already, please check out the ACLU’s Know Your Rights as a protester.
More to come, and I’ll keep you posted.
