John,
The Authoritarian in Chief is attacking our communities, including terrorizing families with mass deportations and sending the National Guard and U.S. Marines to assault protesters.
But people are rising up to protect our rights and our neighbors—and to resist fascism.
This Saturday, there will be more than 2,000 “No Kings” rallies in every single state across the country to protest Trump’s billionaire government and reject authoritarianism.
Click here to find a rally near you and make your voice heard this Saturday!
And if you’re interested, the ACLU is hosting a virtual Know Your Rights training tonight at 7 pm ET to prepare for Saturday’s protests.
Right now, Trump is using the National Guard to silence peaceful protesters―unleashing attacks and dangerously escalating the situation in Los Angeles. He has done this without the consent of Governor Newsom or Mayor Bass. Sending in the military to brutalize U.S. protesters is an abuse of power and evidence of our country’s descent into fascism.
Legal experts are sounding the alarm that Trump’s latest actions (using Title 10 to override state authority) violate the Constitution as well as the Posse Comitatus Act, which blocks the military from acting as a police force against civilians. He’s acting like a king, but we’re not staying silent.
As Anabel Mendoza of United We Dream Action said:
“What we witnessed in LA over the weekend is proof that Americans of all backgrounds are coming together to boldly and courageously reject ICE’s cruelty. We, the people, will not stay silent nor retreat into fear as thousands of armed agents and National Guard soldiers descend onto our cities to terrorize our neighbors and loved ones. Our cities, workplaces and neighborhoods are all made stronger because of immigrants. Our nation depends on the power of everyday people, and we will all come together to defend one another.”
Click here to join me and everyday people across the country this Saturday to defend our communities and our rights, saying: no kings, no dictators or tyrants, and no fascism!
Together, we’re demanding a multiracial democracy where all of us can thrive, with equity and safety for all.
In solidarity,
Rashida
