We’ve watched as our community put in calls, made visits, and shared their stories about why Medicaid matters. You’ve told your elected officials that this program is life-saving, vital support — and they are feeling the pressure. We need you to keep it up! Here’s our next step.

The Senate’s version of the federal budget comes out next week. That means this week is an extremely important time to tell your Senators that they work for us — and we demand NO cuts to Medicaid! Congress must fund the services keeping us and our loved ones alive. We need to tell them we won’t accept any cuts, including ones with misleading names like “work requirements” or “disability verification” — a cut is a cut.

House Speaker Johnson lied about the House version of the bill not having any cuts to Medicaid. He said that policy changes like job loss penalties do not count as cuts. This is not true. The Congressional Budget Office says that the House’s cuts to health care would cause 16 million [[link removed]] people to become uninsured. We must prevent this from happening in the Senate as well.

Call and meet with your Senators and tell them to #ProtectMedicaid [[link removed]] in their version of the budget!

To call [[link removed]], you can use our script:

“Hi, my name is [your name]. I am a constituent of [Senator] [their last name]. I am calling today to ask the Senator to protect Medicaid from cuts and harmful changes for anyone currently receiving services.

Please ask Senator [NAME] to tell all members of Congressional Leadership that they do not want cuts to Medicaid for anyone. I do not want anyone to lose coverage or to receive less benefits. Any cuts, including policies like job loss penalties or more frequent disability verification, will cause [your state] to cut services or take coverage away.

Please oppose all policies that make Medicaid harder to get, more expensive, or take away coverage from people. Thank you.”

Need help knowing what to expect when calling? We have a resource [[link removed]] for that.

Senators have offices both in DC and locally [[link removed]]. Meeting with your Senators’ staff in their local offices is very powerful. If you can, setting up a meeting is one of the best ways to convince your elected official that Medicaid matters to the people they represent.

Need help understanding how to set up a meeting? We have you covered [[link removed]], with templates for emailing or calling to set one up.

This is a critical week to make sure our Senators remember to do their job. They represent us, and our community’s lives are on the line. The Senate has the chance to keep millions of people relying on Medicaid alive, if they are only willing to listen. Call early and call often. Make them hear you!
