ICE is targeting and locking up undocumented people throughout the city, and residents are pushing back. In response, President Trump invoked rarely used federal powers, deploying 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines without the governor's approval. 

California leaders, including Gov. Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass, called it "purposefully inflammatory," saying it will only escalate tensions.

Here’s the truth: we can’t rely on more militarized responses. We need leaders who understand communities, who lead with empathy, who protect our rights, and who govern with wisdom, not military tactics.

That’s exactly what Emerge is working to build: a pipeline of Democratic women who will run for office, from school board to Congress, trained to defend democracy at every level.
