Here in Arizona, we have a critical race on the horizon: State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Multiple Democratic candidates are stepping up to challenge the far-right incumbent, Tom Horne. And now, MAGA extremists are pushing to replace him with someone even more extreme—current State Treasurer Kimberly Yee—because they believe Horne is “too moderate.”
Let’s be clear: Tom Horne is the same person who made PragerU’s conspiracy-laden curriculum part of Arizona’s public education system. The thought of someone even farther to the right leading our schools should terrify anyone who values facts, critical thinking, and honest history.
Unfortunately, this race is often overlooked. It shares the ballot with high-profile races for Governor, Attorney General, and Secretary of State, and many Democratic organizations focus their resources elsewhere.
But not us.
