Dear John,
We have a special treat for you this week, as former Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan joins us to talk about the shady world of surveillance pricing.
Go undercover with us to discover this clandestine new method corporations may be using to charge you more for certain products than they charge someone else.
Businesses are gathering enormous amounts of personal information about you online, which they can use to predict your personal “pain point” – the highest amount you’ll be willing to pay for a good or service.
In today’s video, we reveal these shady methods corporations are using that you may not even be aware of. Check it out, then share it on social media to spread the word. We deserve to know how our personal data is being used!
Under Chair Khan’s leadership, the FTC launched an investigation that turned up numerous ways businesses are already engaged in these practices. So what can we do to stop corporations from using our personal data to rip us off?
The FTC should continue to investigate surveillance pricing practices, and armed with this information, lawmakers should consider passing more stringent consumer protection and privacy laws to protect us from this type of price discrimination.
We have a right to know how our personal data is being used! And businesses shouldn’t be able to weaponize our own data against us -- charging each of us a different price just because they can.
Thank you for watching and spreading the word about this shady practice.
