Dear SPUC supporter,
The report stage of the Crime and Policing Bill takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Assuming they are selected for debate, this is when the extreme amendments to decriminalise abortion will be debated and voted on.

|
As a reminder, if either of these amendments were passed, it would be the most massive expansion of abortion since 1967.
New Clause 1, tabled by Tonia Antoniazzi MP, seeks to change criminal law so that “no offence is committed by a woman acting in relation to her own pregnancy” at any gestation. This means that a woman who induced her abortion at home using pills (or any other method) at any stage of pregnancy, including just before natural birth, would not commit a crime.
New Clause 20, tabled by Stella Creasy MP, is even more extreme. It completely repeals the laws that form the legal underpinning of the current abortion law, meaning that there’d be no way to bring an abusive partner who causes the death of an unborn baby to justice.
We only have ONE WEEK left to persuade MPs to vote against these amendments. Please do as many of these actions as you can.
1. Attend Our Demo
|
|
We will be holding a demo on Tuesday 17 June outside Parliament, telling MPs to vote NO to abortion up to birth. If you are able to get to London, please do your best to attend. We need to tell MPs and the media that the public do NOT endorse these evil proposals.

2. Write to Your MP
We need MPs bombarded with messages telling them to vote no to these amendments. You can use the tool on our website, which tells you who your MP is and provides an editable template. As always, please put your message in your own words!

3. Complain to the BBC
This morning, the BBC aired a particularly biased segment on abortion decriminalisation. The head of Advocacy at abortion provider BPAS was given an unchallenged interview on the Today programme, where she promoted Tonia Antoniazzi’s New Clause 1 amendment. (You can listen back to it here, at 54 minutes in).
This is a clear breach of Rule 5 of the Ofcom Code in relation to “due impartiality and due accuracy”. You can complain to the BBC at www.bbc.co.uk/complaints or by calling them on 037 0010 0222 or 037 0010 0212. You can also forward your complaint to Ofcom at [email protected]. The media have been relentlessly promoting this pro-abortion campaign, and we need to hold the state-funded broadcaster to account!

|
4. Sign our Joint Petition with CitizenGo
Please sign our joint petition with CitizenGo against these amendments, and share it with others!
|
|
5. Order Flyers
Finally, a great way to raise awareness and get other people writing to MPs is to order our flyers. They can be distributed door-to-door or given out at your church (if you order now, you should get them on time to be distributed at church this Sunday!).
|
|
Please do as many of these actions as you can. I realise this comes in the midst of a gruelling campaign against the assisted suicide (we’re expecting the vote on that two or three days after these abortion amendments are debated!) but we must do all we can to protect mothers and babies from these extreme and dangerous proposals.
Yours in life,
