John,
My grandfather was born in Eveleth, Minnesota, to Jewish immigrants who fled persecution in Lithuania, a place where they had no say in who governed them. They came to this country, and to this state, in search of something simple but powerful: freedom.
They opened a dry goods store in Hill City, worked hard, raised their family, and knew what mattered most: look out for others, speak the truth, and always be a part of something bigger than yourself.
That legacy is why I do this work.
I’ve spent my career defending democracy and the right to vote, first as a legislator and now as Secretary of State, because I know what’s at stake when people are denied their voice.
And right now, that freedom is under attack again, from efforts to block eligible voters, from disinformation, and from those who want to silence truth-tellers.
That’s why I need your help. June 30th is our end-of-quarter fundraising deadline, and we need to raise another $27,000 before then. People will be watching to see if we’re still willing to stand up for our democracy. Will you chip in $10 or more today to help me protect the freedom to vote and fight back against these attacks?

As Secretary of State, I oversee Minnesota’s elections, and I take that responsibility personally.
I know that when a young person votes for the first time, when a senior is able to cast a ballot from home, when an election judge feels supported and safe doing their job, that’s democracy in action.
In Minnesota, we lead the nation in voter turnout year after year. And that’s not an accident. It’s because we’ve fought to expand access, strengthen election security, and protect every voter’s voice, no matter where they live or who they vote for.
But those achievements didn’t happen on their own.
They came from people like you showing up, staying engaged, and believing that our democracy is worth protecting.
So I’m asking again: if you believe in this work and if you believe in what we’re building together, will you chip in before the end of the quarter fundraising deadline?
Thank you for being part of this. It means more than you know.
Gratefully,
Steve
