It has been announced that the existing Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program (STAP) Outreach and Training Specialist contracts will end on August 31, 2025. As a result, these contracted STAP specialists will no longer certify applications through the contracts. The STAP program will continue to help eligible Texans in obtaining equipment. It is important to note that the end of these contracts will affect a small number of STAP applicants: Most STAP applicants receive community-based assistance with the certification of their STAP applications, which remains fully in place.
Applicants who used to get help from a contracted STAP Specialist will need to work with an eligible STAP Certifier in their community to have their application certified.
Linked is a FAQ document developed by Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services to address questions and provide clarification to the community regarding this upcoming change.
You may contact the STAP Program at [email protected] if you need assistance or have questions.
