Friend – tonight, Conservative Party leadership hopefuls are taking the stage for their first debate.
It’s an important reminder of the progress at stake for Canadians, and the urgency of our work together to keep Canada moving forward.
So far, Conservative leadership candidates have made clear that they would make pollution free again and roll back climate action, cut vital services, weaken gun control, slash funding for CBC news, and much more. And if any of that sounds familiar, it’s because candidates like Erin O’Toole and Peter MacKay are promising a return to the same policies that both Andrew Scheer and Stephen Harper have been advancing for years – policies that left the middle class and the most vulnerable falling behind for far too long.
Friend, we can’t let the Conservative Party take Canada backward.
Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party earned a mandate last fall from Canadians to invest in the middle class and our most vulnerable, grow an economy that works for everyone, fight climate change, and keep Canadians safe with stronger gun control. Especially in a minority Parliament though, we know that none of our progress can ever be taken for granted.
