John,
In the three weeks since the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police Department, thousands have protested police brutality against Black people in our country, and more than 2,100 people have raised their hands to say they’d like to learn more about running for office. For context, this is the same number of people who signed up during the entirety of summer 2019.
The same folks who are out marching and leading Black Lives Matter rallies and holding their elected officials accountable are also thinking about how they can be part of major, systemic change.
We’re going to be right there to support them. But like a lot of organizations, our fundraising plans have dramatically changed under COVID-19. We are relying on online, grassroots donations more than ever to support our candidates and potential candidates. (And that list will grow next week, when we announce our newest round of endorsements, which includes dozens of candidates committed to reforming our country’s unjust policing practices.)
And right now, those donations can have double the impact.
Any donation you make before midnight will be matched by generous donors and your impact will be DOUBLED.
Chip in $5 or more to help support the literal thousands of new people who are reaching out to run for something.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
The stakes for 2020 are high.
Want more money to be spent on health care and housing and less on police? Might be time to change your city council and mayor.
Want LGBTQ+ kids to be safe to learn and grow at school? Take a look at who’s on your school boards.
Want to stop conservatives from holding a majority of seats in state legislatures and Congress while constantly losing the popular vote? With the census ongoing, most state legislatures will be redrawing electoral districts. This is our chance to stop gerrymandering nationwide by electing candidates committed to ending partisan gerrymandering and returning power to all the people.
2020 could be the year for dramatic change. And young people are ready to make it happen by putting their name on the ballot. We want to be able to give them the support they need and start planning for the next cycle, too.
And right now you can help further this cause by having your contribution doubled. But at midnight tonight our donor match will end. Can you chip in $5, or whatever you can afford, to elect more young progressives?
Thank you and stay safe,
Amanda Litman
