The House budget is a cruel assault on immigrant communities. Tell the Senate to stop this bill now.
John,
This was is how ICE handled peaceful demonstrators in Los Angeles over the weekend:
This is what Trump’s deportation machine looks like up close in our communities. ICE is kicking down doors, dragging immigrants from their workplaces, and disappearing people into secret detention centers often with no warrants, no charges, and no warning.
The budget bill that just cleared the House escalates this attack on immigrant communities. It strips healthcare from workers who’ve spent decades paying in. It kicks millions of children out of the Child Tax Credit. It slams families with back-breaking fees for trying to reunite with their own kids. And it shovels a fortune into Donald Trump’s deportation machine.
It’s targeted cruelty, written into law.
If just one parent lacks a Social Security number, their kids, who are citizens, are cut off from basic support. Immigrants who’ve contributed to Medicare for years are told they’re not eligible. States that help cover healthcare for immigrants get slapped with penalties. Families seeking legal status are hit with massive new fees. This bill is designed to grind people down until they give up.
A vote to move this bill forward is a vote to double down on the politics of fear and division. It’s a vote against the idea that this country should offer opportunity and protection to all who call it home.
The people being targeted are not strangers. They are neighbors, coworkers, parents, and classmates. They are the ones keeping this country running, even as politicians try to erase them from the budget and the ballot.
No child should be denied care because of their parent’s paperwork. No family should be fined for staying together. No worker should be discarded after a decade of paying into Medicare.
This bill tells millions of people they are not welcome in the country they’ve helped build. We refuse to accept that.
