Democrats in the House of Representatives, led by the Congressional Black Caucus, have introduced a bill written to address the issues at the heart of the country's historic civil unrest.
The Justice in Policing Act of 2020 would make it easier to prosecute police for misconduct. Specifically, the Act would incentivize state AGs to take on patterns of racism and corruption in local police departments, ban no-knock warrants in drug cases, ban excessive force like the use of chokeholds, and limit the transfer of military-grade equipment to state and local law enforcement -- along with many other measures meant to safeguard civil rights against abuse by law enforcement.
