Friend,
In just a moment, I am going to ask you to make a contribution to USCRI to help refugees and immigrants. Please let me explain why this is so important:
Practically every day, the Trump Administration takes another action to close the door to people fleeing tyranny and persecution around the world.
Last week, it was expansion of the “public charge” rule.
The week before that, it was a proposal to eliminate the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program.
Prior to that, it was making it harder for immigrants to claim asylum in the U.S. The list goes on. The “stay in Mexico” rule, the family separation policy, the Muslim ban, and more. Each rule is more shocking than the last.
And just today, the Administration announced that it will abolish a decades-old legal agreement that imposes a 20-day limit on holding children in immigrant detention. This will effectively allow the Administration to detain migrant children indefinitely.
These policies erode the United States’ historic role as a global leader and stand in direct contrast to our values of freedom, democracy, and respect for human rights worldwide.
Right after the 2016 election, USCRI and similar organizations experienced a surge in donations. People were outraged and they wanted to help. But now we’re seeing a slump, and we need the support more than ever.
We get it. It’s exhausting. But we can’t give up. Here at USCRI, we continue to fight on behalf of people who’ve been uprooted from their homes. Families who have witnessed unspeakable violence, children living in desperate poverty, fellow human beings who simply want a life of dignity and hope.
Can you make a contribution today? Your gift will allow USCRI to keep up the pressure on lawmakers and provide hands-on support (such as English classes and job training) to immigrants from around the world who come to the U.S. to rebuild their lives in peace and safety. Thank you.
