CELEBRATING PENTECOST
and sharing our work in reporting and renewal
Dear friend,
As we enter the season of Pentecost, we remember the Spirit descending like fire, gathering the Church in boldness, mission, and unity. This season reminds us of the Church’s calling to proclaim the gospel to every generation, in every tongue, with clarity and courage.
At The Living Church Foundation, this mission has guided our work since 1878. And today, I want to thank you for standing with us as readers, friends, and supporters who make this witness possible.
In recent months, we’ve been hard at work:
** REPORTING ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
Our editorial team delivered thoughtful, in-depth reporting on pressing issues, including the impact of visa backlogs ([link removed]) on immigrant priests, challenges surrounding the election of the Bishop of Montreal ([link removed]) , and proposals to revise the lectionary ([link removed]) to address anti-Jewish bias.
** COVENANT ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
Covenant ([link removed]) , our online theological journal, continues to foster meaningful dialogue and faithful scholarship, bringing together emerging voices and seasoned contributors in service to the Church.
** THE LIVING CHURCH MAGAZINE
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
The Living Church magazine highlighted compelling stories: a congregation of migrants ([link removed]) living out biblical hospitality by ‘caring for the widow, the orphan, the stranger’ in Trump-era America with powerful photos from Asher Imtiaz; a series exploring the breadth of Anglican education in North America; and expanded coverage of the Anglican Communion ([link removed]) made possible by a generous grant from Trinity Church Wall Street.
** EVENTS ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
More than 100 participants gathered for the Tending the Vineyard Conference on church growth, cohosted by TLC and St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, to reflect theologically, realistically, and hopefully on the future of church vitality.
** PODCAST ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
The Living Church Podcast ([link removed]) featured a wide range of voices and topics, including Christian unity, faith and farming, transgender pastoral care, global crises, and spiritual discipline. Recent guests included Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe ([link removed]) ; Mary Berry ([link removed]) of the Berry Center; Fr. Martin Browne ([link removed]) of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity; and ballet dancer and choreographer Silas Farley ([link removed]) .
** RESOURCES ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]
Later this summer, we will release two updated editions of our books:
The Episcopal Musician’s Handbook ([link removed]) , 69th Edition, Lectionary Year A
Pastoral Ministrations of the Priest ([link removed]) , leather bound, 2nd Edition
As we move deeper into this season, I ask for your continued prayers and support. Your generosity makes our ministry of reporting and renewal possible—and essential—in this time of both challenge and hope.
May the Spirit who gave birth to the Church continue to guide and inspire us in our several callings.
With gratitude in Christ,
Matthew S.C. Olver, Ph.D.
