I recently spent a weekend in Anaheim at the California Democratic Party’s State Convention, where I had so many great conversations about the need for new voices in the party. 

I get it, John — you may be wondering why someone like me, who’s challenging an incumbent, would spend a weekend with party insiders and leaders. 

But you first have to play the game to change the game. 

Whether I’m talking to folks in my community or members of the California Democratic Party, my message remains the same: The politicians who have been in power for most of my life are not equipped to legislate for where the world is now. 

We need to have these important conversations with everyone — not just the folks who agree with us.
