Dear John — Let me be clear:

What we are seeing in Los Angeles County is a purposeful provocation by the Trump Administration.

From arresting immigrants to detaining labor leaders to mobilizing military personnel against peaceful citizens, to threatening the arrest of our Governor, Trump has made his intentions clear — to demonize, divide, and destroy our communities.

Yet, his actions will only strengthen the resolve of Angelenos and those who call the Golden State home.

We will not bow to a king or bend to the will of a dictator.

We will speak up, speak out, push back, and fight back today, tomorrow, and every day until justice is won.

In this moment, we must make our collective voices heard.

Peacefully. Without violence. And together.

For immigrant communities, know your rights. For those who take to the streets to peacefully protest, know your rights. Because if we don't find ways to speak up and speak out today, we may soon lose the chance to do so tomorrow.

Speak up. Speak out. Stay safe.
