This weekend we had big storms and a big Thunder win. I hope you had some good time with family.
Cindy and I attended the 2025 Oklahoma March for Life Rally ([link removed]) at the Oklahoma Capitol Saturday to stand with a great group of Oklahomans who also value life. Every person is created in the image of God, has value, and worth, and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I support life at all stages of development—the only difference between a baby in the womb and a baby in a mother's arms is time. I am also very grateful for our pregnancy resource centers and all those who support pregnant moms and young families in our state. On Sunday, I joined NBC's Meet the Press. They asked me about the chaos in Los Angeles as protestors set cars on fire, burned American flags, and attacked federal law enforcement while they were arresting criminal aliens in California. This kind of protest is a direct result of years of sanctuary city polices in places like California where local law enforcement has been instructed by the political leaders to ignore ICE requests. President Trump is right to send the National Guard to support local and federal law enforcement in California before these protests spiral out of control like the 2021 protests in Portland, OR, when anarchists took over the federal courthouse and downtown district. I also talked about the need to pass President Trump's Big Beautiful Bill to prevent tax hikes on all Americans and reduce our long-term spending. I have worked on this bill for months, including a two-hour meeting with the President last week to go through many of the major outstanding issues. We need to pass the bill so we can get real waste reduction and spending reforms. I am very aware that this bill does not solve all of our deficit, but we do not have the votes to solve everything right now. I think we should reduce spending as much as we can, then go back later and work for even more. Let’s do something to slow down the deficit, even if we can’t do everything, instead of just arguing and doing nothing!
This bill takes big steps to cut waste, fraud and abuse of our hard-earned tax money. In the Finance Committee this week, we will have Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to answer questions about the Big Beautiful Bill and the President's budget request for the Treasury. Additionally, my subcommittee is holding a hearing this week to continue the oversight into the security preparations for the LA/OK Olympics in 2028. We are also confirming nominees for President Trump's team and working to get the annual bills like the Defense Bill and appropriations ready for debate.
