Trump’s travel ban takes place today under the backdrop of massive public outcry against ICE raids across the country.

Trump’s entire immigration agenda is a far-right crackdown on civil liberties, human rights, and all of our communities.

The travel ban going into effect would bar people from 12 different countries from entering the US, targeting countries in Africa and the Middle East.

For some Americans, it will mean their partners, spouses, or children will be banned from reuniting with them here. It will mean missing weddings and graduations and funerals.

And it’s not a mistake that most of the affected countries are Muslim-majority. This is a racist policy that will not make us safe — it will only sow more division, endanger lives, and betray our values.

Meanwhile, Trump has been using ICE as a personal secret police, arresting college students for exercising free speech, ripping families apart, and sending US residents to a dangerous prison in El Salvador without any charges or due process.

It’s no surprise that Trump was looking for the first chance he could get to send the National Guard into a city like Los Angeles and escalate a situation into violence — this administration is dead set on brutally enforcing its far-right agenda. Americans have a right to resist.

I am doing everything I can as an immigrant myself, who came to this country for the promise of a better future, to build a movement that protects immigrants and their essential place in our nation.
