Yesterday, in a Rubicon moment, Trump seized control of the California National Guard and deployed them to Los Angeles to be used against American citizens on American soil. 

Now Trump has escalated things even further.

In remarks to the press this morning, Trump called for the Director of ICE to arrest California Governor Gavin Newsom. 

Trump has already used ICE to arrest and indict political enemies including the Mayor of Newark, Congresswoman LaMonica McIver (D-NJ), and students critical of the President’s Israel policy. Now he plans to use them to arrest a sitting governor, something unprecedented in American history.

As we’ve been saying over the past few weeks, although these events are deeply troubling, for the time being we still have a democracy and we can’t let these moments freeze us into hopelessness and apathy. We need to fight. 

Democrats across the country are using this summer to build the infrastructure we need to build a historic blue wave that will take back Congress and give us back a much needed tool to stop the administration. While the National Party focuses on a few dozen set piece battleground districts it's on No Dem Left Behind to shore up our flanks in rural districts - places where we can’t afford to leave democrats behind.
