John,

Donald Trump sent ICE agents and National Guard troops into our communities -- not to keep anyone safe, but to terrorize immigrant families and intimidate peaceful protesters.

This escalation is entirely the result of Trump’s agenda of fear and intimidation.

Let’s be clear: protests are not crimes. Organizing is not a threat. And in California, we do not accept ICE raids and military crackdowns on civilians as normal.

Right now, people are being assaulted for peacefully speaking out -- including labor leader David Huerta, who was arrested simply for standing up for workers. Protesters are facing military-grade weapons in our neighborhoods. Families are afraid to leave their homes. And Trump is hoping isolated incidents of violence and property destruction will overshadow the thousands of Californians who are protesting peacefully.

We can’t fall into that trap. We can’t let his strongman spectacle distract from the real violence his regime is committing.

So I’m asking you to do three things:

If you’re protesting, go with a trusted group, make a safety plan, and stay nonviolent -- especially on federal property, where the risk is highest.

Join peaceful protests happening today, including these in the Bay Area:

San Francisco: Travel Ban protest, 4 PM, City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place

San Jose: Emergency protest, 4:30 PM — local community leaders are gathering Call your local officials and demand action.

Ask your mayor and city council to reaffirm sanctuary policies and stop any coordination between local police and ICE. Look up your elected officials here.

Trump’s MAGA regime wants us to be afraid. But what I see is courage. Connection. People showing up for each other even when the risk is great.

Take care of yourself, John. I’ll keep fighting to protect our freedoms -- and I’m grateful you’ll be with me when it matters most.

Betty
