Pompeo Meets China’s Top Diplomat in Hawaii

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and China’s top diplomat, Yang Jiechi began talks in Hawaii on Wednesday, a crucial meeting as relations between the two countries have soured since the start of the year, as Reuters reports.

Beijing Seal Off

China is moving rapidly to seal off its capital of 22 million residents by canceling flights and trains amid growing fears that a potential second wave of covid-19 is gathering strength in Beijing and could spread to the rest of the country, as the Washington Post reports.

Global Corporate Tax Talks at Impasse

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has declared global corporate-tax negotiations at an impasse, dealing a blow to the already fragile talks, as the WSJ reports.

Online Events

Tomorrow, at 1:00 p.m., the CSIS Economics program will host their second event in the new online series, Economy Disrupted. It will be a discussion on U.S.-China relations.
