John,

There is no reason for Trump to take over the California National Guard and send them into Los Angeles, against our community’s wishes. There’s even less excuse for him to talk about sending in the Marines. Local law enforcement is capable of handling situations in our region.

This is a volatile moment that requires us to stand behind our convictions, while not playing into Trump’s trap. We must keep attention on what Trump and Republicans are doing to our families, our friends and our neighbors – not fanning the flames of violence that will give Trump what he wants – an excuse to declare martial law in California.

Trump needs a distraction to hide the life-changing cuts to your healthcare that he and the Congressional Republicans are pushing through, in the dead of night.

He doesn’t want you to focus on the real threats:

To our health
To our families
To our environment
And, yes, to our immigrant neighbors

That’s why we must keep focused and maintain protests without violence. Together, we can and will hold the line.
