This weekend, raids by immigration authorities in Los Angeles brought people from across the city into the streets, including David Huerta, the president of SEIU California.
He joined workers in a peaceful protest to protect the basic human dignity and human rights of workers who were being targeted in ICE raids at their workplaces. In response, ICE agents injured and violently detained David.
His assault and detainment are horrifying and unacceptable, and we are demanding David’s immediate release.
David is a beloved friend and courageous leader who has devoted his life to advocating for workers. But, this assault isn't just an attack on David — it's an attack on every immigrant, every worker, every family, and every community fighting for justice.
Detaining David and the violence that law enforcement has carried out against communities in LA are meant to send a message of intimidation to all that stand for immigrant rights, workers rights, peace, and justice.
That’s why right now, the National Domestic Workers Alliance is joining with SEIU, labor movements nationwide, and thousands of community members to demand justice. Those in power want us to feel fear, but we know that coming together to protect each other is a powerful antidote.
David stood firm for us. It's our turn now to stand strong for him.
Thanks for all you do,
The NDWA Team
Thank you for being a dedicated supporter of the National Domestic Workers Alliance!
We're working day and night to win respect, recognition, and labor rights and protections for the more than 2.5 million nannies, house cleaners, and homecare workers.
The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
