Two of our New York Nine candidates are gaining steam! Jamaal Bowman (NY-16), and Tomas Ramos (NY-15) are going all-in for the final push of their campaigns.

Jamaal Bowman was born and raised in New York City, and knows what it’s like to live in public housing and rent-controlled apartments. He knows what it’s like to struggle to balance healthcare and childcare costs, while trying to put food on the table. After seeing the failures in our education system, Jamaal has spent twenty years fighting for teachers, students, and their families. He worked on dismantling Common Core NY, worked with the New York State Early Childhood Blue Ribbon Committee and started Cornerstone Academy for Social Action.

Jamaal is ready to represent New York’s 16th district. Incumbent Rep. Eliot Engel has been a U.S. House representative since 1989. He’s served for multiple generations but as we know, Congress has done little to bring change for marginalized communities. It’s time to elect a new kind of representative in New York’s 16th.

Tomas Ramos is another community organizer in New York who has answered the call. Tomas is a first-generation American from the Dominican Republic. The War on Drugs and crack cocaine epidemic both affected Tomas’ family directly. His passion for progressive politics is marked by a true desire for systemic change. Today, as Program Director for Children's Arts & Science Workshops at the Bronx River Community Center, Tomas helps young people chart more successful lives, regardless of their families' incomes or national origins.

As the Covid-19 epidemic tore through Tomas’ community in March, he temporarily suspended campaigning to raise funds for local hospitals. The Bronx Rising Initiative connected hospitals with donors, and through the program, Tomas helped raise nearly $4,000,000 for local hospitals.

Tomas’ dedication on the ground at the height of a Congressional campaign highlights his deep love for the community, and we’re sure that as an elected official, Tomas will go the extra mile for his district.

Our New York Nine face primaries in less than a week. June 23rd is right around the corner, so we are working night and day to help every campaign across the finish line.
