Tell Senators to oppose SNAP and Medicaid cuts ([link removed])
This week, the Senate is expected to release the text of the Reconciliation Bill, which may include a permanent ban on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid programs for low-income individuals and families. Food insecurity affects millions of people in the U.S., including many children, who often face uncertainty about their next meal. Many of them depend on charitable organizations in their communities for food. Last year alone, Catholic Charities served 28 million meals to those in need across the country.
If the provisions are included in the bill, access to these programs may be cut for vulnerable groups, including seniors, veterans, children, and individuals with certain disabilities, as well as refugees and asylees who have passed thorough vetting processes. Such reductions could lead to an increase in poverty levels and worsen food insecurity and hunger, particularly in rural areas, amid rising inflation and food costs.
Please call and write to your U.S. senators to express opposition to including in the Reconciliation Bill provisions that would eliminate Medicaid and SNAP benefits for those who are most vulnerable.
