SPEAK UP FOR
ASYLUM SEEKERS

Urgent action needed to support people fearing for their lives and livelihoods in Central America.

Treat asylum seekers with dignity

Standing up for your values
will only take a minute.

TAKE ACTION

Dear Friend –

As our nation grapples with recovering from a series of devastating shootings – including the deadliest attack on Latinx and immigrants in our nation’s history in El Paso, Texas – we at Oxfam reject hatred, xenophobia, racism, and misogyny, in any form. Hatred has no place in America – or anywhere.

Our work to defend the human rights of marginalized communities continues, and we need you to join us in this fight.

You’ve seen the images in the news: thousands detained at the border in inhumane conditions, families separated, and justice denied. These heartless policies betray our American values.

Every year, thousands of Central Americans are forced to leave their homes out of desperation to escape gender-based and gang violence, rampant income inequality, poverty, and corrupt governments. But the Trump administration’s response is only making matters worse. Innocent women, men, and children are met with hostility rather than compassion and civility.

Enough is enough. We are better than this.

It’s urgent that you join us and speak up on behalf of the people fearing for their lives and livelihoods in Central America – and those arriving at the border in search of safety and a better life.

The Trump administration has taken extreme, inhumane measures to deter people fleeing for their lives from seeking protection in the US, including separating families, preventing people from exercising their legal rights to seek asylum, and indefinitely detaining those who arrive on US soil seeking safety. Importantly, this cruelty is not solving the crises that push our Southern neighbors to flee. We need smarter policies, grounded in the principles of compassion.

Together, we are calling on Congress to act:

  • Invest in programs that address the reasons people are fleeing in the first place.
  • Defend the right to seek asylum at the US border.
  • Uphold our American values and treat all people humanely.

Sign your name now and tell Congress to address the root causes of migration from Central America and treat asylum-seekers with dignity.

People in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras face some of the worst violence and inequality in the world – and those seeking asylum in the US cannot wait any longer for the vital assistance that we can provide.

Congress is currently considering a bill that will help stop the inhumane treatment of migrants at the border and address the root causes of forced migration from Central America.

Sign your name now and tell Congress to act urgently in support of the people fleeing violence and inequality in Central America.

We will not stay silent – and we hope you will not either.

Sincerely,

Gina Cummings
