Friends,

It’s starting to feel like summer across North Carolina, and as the days get hotter, the fight for America’s future is heating up too.

Whether it’s protecting your paycheck, supporting our troops, or ending the chaos at the border, I’ve been working around the clock up in Washington to put your values first.

There’s a lot going on, but I want to highlight three big things this week.

1. Why We Need To Deliver President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill

Let’s start with the biggest headline of them all – and cut through some of the wild rhetoric we’ve been hearing the past few weeks.

Under President Trump’s leadership, House Republicans have passed what might be the most consequential legislation in a generation.  This is a can’t miss opportunity to deliver on our campaign promises – from cutting your taxes, to securing the border, unleashing American energy, and bringing some badly needed common sense to Washington.

Here’s how this bill will help you:

It puts money in your pocket by delivering the largest tax cut in American history – by adding to Americans’ take-home pay by as much as $13,300 and wages by as much as $11,600.  Tax bills for families earning between $30,000-$80,000 will be lowered by 15%!

Plus, by making the Trump 2017 Tax Cuts permanent – we protect families from the largest tax INCREASE in American history!

We end taxes on tips and overtime – so whether you are waiting on tables in Fayetteville or putting in long hours at a Hospital in Raeford – you’re hard work and extra hours will no longer be punished.

The bill provides $72 Billion Dollars in Tax Cuts for Seniors!

With new spectrum sales, we will strengthen rural communities with expanded broadband access so our small towns aren’t left behind in the next tech revolution.

It helps family farmers by eliminating the death tax for over 2 million farm families, delivering over $20 billion in cuts, while protecting them from foreign competition.

We slashed red tape for builders and landowners, speeding up permits, and unleashing American energy.

The bill protects Medicaid to those most in need, expanding spending in the program by 25% into 2034, restoring program integrity with work requirements for able-bodied, independent adults with reasonable exceptions,  ending abuse by illegal immigrants, and repealing over burdensome regulations that would put long term care facilities out of business. .

The bill provides funding to rebuild America’s military — including $9+ billion to improve quality of life for our servicemembers, $20+ billion to bolster U.S. munitions production, and $12+ billion to modernize our nuclear arsenal.

This is more than just a bill. This is what delivering on campaign promises on behalf of the people looks like.

2. Leading on A.I. & Holding China Accountable

Earlier this week. I chaired a hearing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) with my  House Energy and Commerce Committee colleagues. With experts in the room, we drilled down on how to protect American jobs, national security, and our kids’ futures.

AI is a tricky issue because whether we realize it or not, it's a powerful tool that already affects our lives everyday.  But we need to establish clear guardrails to keep it from becoming a weapon in the wrong hands but also incentivizing innovation so our nation stays a leader in this field.  That is why we need to make sure that America, not China, sets the standards for the most powerful technology in human history.

We can protect our values and lead the world. Those are not competing goals, they’re inseparable ones. That means establishing firm guardrails to shield our children and defend national security, without shackling the very spirit of American innovation. History won’t wait. If we get this right, America sets the standard for freedom in the age of AI. If we don’t, China will.

3. Supporting Families and First Responders in the Fight Against Addiction

Far too many families across our communities are still battling the opioid and fentanyl crisis. Which is why this week Congress passed the bipartisan SUPPORT Act – a bill that gives our communities the tools they need to fight back.

This bill helps first responders save lives, improves treatment and recovery options, and strengthens local prevention and recovery centers.

It also improves support for pregnant and postpartum women, and opens doors for folks in recovery to get back into the workforce.

Final Word

Whether it’s cutting taxes, rebuilding the military, ending the chaos at the border, or making sure North Carolina can lead the world in innovation; everything we are doing right now is aimed at restoring the American Dream.

Until Next Time,

Richard Hudson

Member of Congress
