John, join SEIU members and allies across the country in demanding the immediate release of David Huerta.

Over the weekend, the Trump-Miller axis escalated its anti-immigration agenda in southern California, particularly within Latino communities in Los Angeles and surrounding cities. David Huerta, a longtime labor leader and president of SEIU California, was attacked by ICE while serving as a community observer during a peaceful protest on Friday afternoon. After receiving medical attention, he was detained and remains in custody.

David Huerta represents the best of our nation's labor movement. Under David’s leadership, SEIU has secured groundbreaking wins for working people across California, including:

  • Legislation increasing paid sick leave for workers statewide
  • Legislation raising the minimum wage for Los Angeles hotel and airport workers ahead of the 2028 Olympics
  • Building an immigrant integration program that includes English classes for union members.

What happened to David on Friday and the militarized escalation that continued through the weekend is about more than just a single leader or a single city. It is a direct assault on all of us who believe in the fundamental American right to stand up for justice, and speak out for the rights of workers.
