His detention is a massive violation of our Constitution.

ACLU Supporter, Mahmoud Khalil has officially been in ICE detention for three months.

In those three months, he's been sent thousands of miles from his family, at first without any notice to his wife or lawyers as to where he was. He was denied the ability to be at the hospital with his wife for the birth of their son. He's had to fight just for a chance to hold his son for the first time.

And the only accusation the government has made against him is that he participated in pro-Palestine protests – lawful speech protected by the Constitution.

One day in detention would have been far too much – three months is unconscionable. Tell acting ICE director Todd Lyons: Free Mahmoud Khalil. <[link removed]>

Take Action <[link removed]>

Here's the promising news: The Trump administration continues to lose in court in countless cases just like Mahmoud's.

The government's attempts to weaponize obscure aspects of immigration law against immigrants and international students and silence their political opinions are failing. Already, the Trump administration has been forced to backtrack on threats to strip away student visas and has freed students and professors in similar situations.

But we must keep up the pressure. We can't rest until Mahmoud Khalil – and every student targeted for their speech – is freed and safely home with his family. Join us in calling for an end to this illegal detention. <[link removed]>

We'll keep fighting every day until Mahmoud is free. Thanks for fighting by our side.

Together,

The ACLU Team
