Medicaid plays an important role in financing primary care for low-income populations. Comprehensive primary care models have shown significant potential for preventing or delaying the onset of chronic conditions, but several federal policy barriers inhibit the provision of these services. Join us as we release a new report with policy recommendations to reduce or eliminate those barriers. Our expert panel will also discuss the impact of COVID-19 on primary care providers and state Medicaid programs.

In this blog post, BPC’s Andy Winkler analyzes the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 on housing and health outcomes. Moving forward, BPC recommends four immediate actions Congress can take to ensure Americans have safe, stable housing and to limit the impacts on low-income families and people of color.

 

In this blog post, BPC’s Anita Burgos and consultant Regina LaBelle, former Chief of Staff of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, assess the unique challenges posed by the intersection of the COVID-19 pandemic and the opioid epidemic in the United States. With overdoses spiking in recent weeks, they argue that real-time, accurate data is essential to guiding policymakers toward effective solutions to both.

 

Across the country, helpline calls for assistance with mental health and substance use issues are increasing at an alarming rate because of COVID-19. In this blog post, BPC staff Edwin Chen, Anita Burgos, and Dena McDonough highlight the importance of promoting integrated models of care to improve services for those struggling with behavioral health conditions.
