John, it's Diabetes Week!

Today is the start of Diabetes Week! A week to make some noise, raise awareness and shout about the things that matter most to people with diabetes, shining a light on what it’s like to live with day in, day out. And this year, we want to talk about the health checks you need when you have diabetes and why they’re so important.

Whilst the number of people getting all their health checks has improved in the last few years, we know more than 1 in 3 people still aren't getting all the checks they need. And there are lots of reasons why. You might feel fine, or like you don’t have the time to attend every diabetes appointment. Maybe you’re not sure of all the checks you should be getting, you haven't been invited, or there are long waiting times. It's not always simple and there are often many other factors involved.

We’ll be exploring those reasons, raising awareness and sharing information and support. So, keep an eye on our social channels and find out what we’re up to and how you can get involved this Diabetes Week.

Not sure what the health checks are or what you should be getting? We have all the information you need, and what care to expect, on our dedicated health checks webpage.

10-year vision for diabetes care

Last month, we launched our new 10-year vision to transform diabetes prevention, care and treatment. It sets out a clear plan for the UK government about how it can improve health outcomes and tackle inequality for people living with diabetes by 2035. The vision involves transforming diabetes care, ensuring new technologies are available to people with diabetes quickly, and more. Find out about the event and read our 10-year vision in full.

But there are also other things you can do to prevent or delay diabetes complications, such as eye problems, foot problems and other long-term issues. Find out more about the complications of diabetes, what causes them, and other ways to reduce your risk. And if you're concerned or want to talk through any worries, we're here for you.
