Hello fellow Democrat,
May was a month of bold leadership and meaningful progress across Massachusetts, thanks to the tireless work of Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll. From expanding access to AI innovation and workforce development to standing up for working families and defending critical federal funding, the administration continues to lead with vision and urgency.
Here are just a few highlights from a month filled with action, results, and a deep commitment to making Massachusetts stronger, fairer, and more resilient for all.
On May 1, The Healey-Driscoll Administration celebrated Massachusetts once again being named the Best State for Working Moms. [[link removed]]
On May 5, Governor Healey and five other northeastern governors invited [[link removed]] Canadian Premiers to a convening in Boston to discuss the impacts of President Trump’s tariffs and how American and Canadian leaders can continue to work together to maintain strong trade relations that benefit local businesses and residents.
On May 6, Governor Healey announced major updates on the state’s effort to grow the artificial intelligence ecosystem in Massachusetts through the Massachusetts AI Hub . The Governor announced a $31 million state grant to expand access to sustainable high-performance computing that is necessary for AI innovation, the hiring of the first director of the AI Hub, and the exploration of a new partnership between the AI Hub, IBM and Red Hat to create a startup accelerator program for entrepreneurs to develop AI technologies and build cutting-edge AI businesses.
On May 6, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced new Innovation Career Pathway designations to 37 high schools , including 20 that are receiving a designated pathway for the first time.
On May 7, the Healey-Driscoll Administration opened registration for a new teacher training opportunity, called Literacy Launch Institutes , that is focused on early childhood literacy.
On May 8, Governor Healey signed an Executive Order [[link removed]] and released a new age-friendly state plan which will outline improved ways for Massachusetts agencies to serve older adults , following feedback gathered from across the state.
On May 13, Governor Healey filed the Energy Affordability, Independence & Innovation Act [[link removed]] that will save ratepayers billions.
On May 14, Governor Healey and Attorney General Andrea Campbell shared resources and reminded student borrowers of their rights as the Trump Administration restarts involuntary collection on federal student loans [[link removed]] in default through the Treasury Offset Program.
On May 14, Governor Healey posted a new public dashboard, mass.gov/fedimpact [[link removed]] , displaying the total amount of funding that the Trump Administration has cut to state agencies in Massachusetts.
On May 15, the Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance issued a decision rejecting a proposed 7.1 percent increase in the cost of workers’ compensation insurance in Massachusetts for the period beginning July 1, 2025. This action by the Healey-Driscoll Administration is expected to save Massachusetts businesses nearly $80 million .
On May 15, Governor Healey sent a letter [[link removed]] to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the House Committee on Agriculture urging them to reject changes proposed by Congressional Republicans to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
On May 15, Governor Healey announced that her administration would make a $25 million match commitment to help redevelop the Worcester Memorial Auditorium, a critical project key to spurring new economic growth in Worcester and the broader region.
On May 15, Governor Healey and her administration took action to limit the cost of health care deductibles and co-pays that patients are required to pay. This is the first time the state has taken action to require insurers to limit this health cost driver.
On May 19, in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Governor Healey partnered with Mass General Brigham (MGB) and McLean Hospital to unveil an exhibition titled Deconstructing Stigma: Changing Attitudes About Mental Health. This exhibition consists of pop-up banners that challenge misconceptions, reduce stigma and promote open conversations about mental health.
