John,
June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time dedicated to remembering the long-lasting impacts of gun violence in America.
Over 300 Americans are touched by gun violence daily, and the list of lives lost is ever-growing. Brady is committed to building a future without gun violence, and, despite the Trump administration's egregious attacks on life-saving efforts, our progress prevails.
We are witnessing Brady-backed policies passing in several states and monumental wins at the Supreme Court. Our data-driven culture change work is reaching key demographics and continuously expanding. And, we are building pivotal partnerships with community violence interventionists, public health workers, and more.
This month, we want to highlight the incredible victories we have achieved and reinvigorate ourselves for the fight ahead. Together, we can overcome any deadly obstacle and finally free America from gun violence.
Gun Store Transparency Project
Brady’s innovative Gun Store Transparency project exposes dangerous and unlawful business practices, holding the problematic gun industry actors accountable. We created an online dashboard that provides the American public with unprecedented access to ATF gun dealer inspection reports and, soon, will highlight the top ATF-flagged crime gun dealers. Gun Store Transparency’s work is critical as we enter the ‘new era’ of the ATF, which falsely claims to value transparency while burying previously public reports.
Partnering with Community Organizations
Brady’s Building a Future Without Gun Violence Summits in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh foster collaboration across our movement. We convene local leaders, policymakers, and experts to examine the gun industry’s impact on community violence. Our Combatting Crime Guns Initiative (CCGI) continues to grow partnerships with community violence interventionists across the country to advance community safety efforts.
National Legal Victories
Brady is celebrating the Supreme Court’s ruling in Bondi v. VanDerStok, upholding former President Biden’s executive action holding ghost gun kit manufacturers and sellers to the same federal regulations and standards as commercial gunmakers. Effectively, ghost guns will be serialized, and purchasers are subject to Brady Background Checks, preventing dangerous individuals from obtaining deadly weapons unchecked.
State Victories
Brady continues to lead life-saving policy changes at the state level, despite opposition at the federal level. In the past year, we helped pass 73 state-level gun safety laws, including:
* Colorado: Raising the purchase age of ammunition to 21;
* Washington: Requiring a permit to purchase firearms;
* Illinois: Removing firearms from those subject to a domestic violence restraining order;
* Hawaii: Signed a new secure storage mandate.
And in 2025, the number of common-sense gun laws passed across the nation is still rising thanks to our dedicated network of advocates.
Show Gun Safety
Brady’s Show Gun Safety team is working with Hollywood writers, producers, and executives to ensure responsible gun practices, like secure storage, are portrayed on-screen. We’ve partnered with 1000+ Hollywood decision makers and presented safe gun practices to nearly 150 million viewers through shows like SWAT, Station 29, White Lotus, Tulsa King, and more.
Brady is pushing back against the Trump administration's dangerous removal of common-sense safety measures. The White House’s friendship with the gun lobby and the cowardly congressional leaders have turned their backs on Americans, but they will not deter our expansion of life-saving work.
We are uniquely positioned to promote progress through the forceful opposition at the federal level. All of our work is made possible by dedicated supporters like you.
