JOHN,
This month is Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time to recommit ourselves to taking action to keep people safe from senseless violence.
More than 90% of firearms recovered at crime scenes in the U.S. can be traced back to just 5% of gun dealers. We must crack down on rogue dealers selling guns illegally to those who shouldn’t have them. Lives depend on it.
That’s why earlier this week, I reintroduced a bill to crack down on these bad actors, give law enforcement the tools to hold them accountable, and help stop the flow of illegal firearms used in incidents of violence.
This bill targets those who knowingly arm criminals – strengthening penalties for dealers who knowingly break the law, increasing the number of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives inspections, giving the DOJ more flexibility with the issuing of firearm licenses, and more.
JOHN – the impact of gun violence is felt right here in Rhode Island.
In our schools.
In our churches.
In our grocery stores.
Gun violence reaches every corner of American life, and this is an epidemic that has gone on far too long. We owe it to our kids to build a country where safety is a right, not a privilege.
These tragedies are preventable, but only if we stand together in holding these bad actors accountable. If you’re with me in this fight — I hope you’ll consider chipping in to help fuel this work.
If you’re able, please consider making a contribution here.
Thank you for standing with me,
Seth
