On Wednesday, the Education and Workforce Committee heard testimony from Education Secretary Linda McMahon regarding the Department of Education’s current direction.
There’s no denying that the Department has a mess to clean up after the last four years of failed leadership under Joe Biden. That mismanagement has hurt teachers, families, and, most importantly, students.
We must refocus our education system on student success. Parents deserve a voice in how their children are educated, and students deserve access to an education that meets their individual needs.
Sadly, today’s students are falling behind, with less than one-third of eighth graders able to read or do math at their grade level. While academic performance suffers, many schools are pushing harmful and divisive ideologies under the banner of DEI (“Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.”) I applaud President Trump for standing up to this divisive rhetoric, but more must be done to ensure classrooms are centers of learning, not indoctrination.
We also face a major skills gap in our workforce. Too many students are steered away from trades and technical careers that offer excellent pay and long-term stability. We must encourage career paths that match students’ strengths and set them up for success.
I’m confident that Secretary McMahon and President Trump's administration will prioritize academic success and student-centered policies.

On Thursday, the Education and Workforce Committee welcomed Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer to testify on the priorities of the Department of Labor.
Under Joe Biden's administration, excessive red tape and misguided policies fueled inflation and workforce shortages. We heard from Secretary Chavez-DeRemer on how the Trump administration is working to reverse those failures and build a stronger economy.
So far, we’ve seen meaningful progress with monthly job growth, a reduction in excessive regulation, lower industry costs, and a stronger workforce.
Workers in Wisconsin’s Sixth District fuel our local economy, especially those in our expansive manufacturing sector. I’m committed to ensuring they have the opportunity and support they deserve. I even invited Secretary Chavez‑DeRemer to visit our district, so she can see firsthand the dedication of Wisconsin workers.
I believe Secretary Chavez-DeRemer understands the importance of our workforce and will continue to deliver results for hardworking Americans.

On Thursday, the Oversight Committee held a hearing on the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI). While AI offers promising technological advancements, from eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in our government to enhancing efficiency, there are also serious risks if it’s not handled responsibly.
Republicans on the committee made it clear that we support AI innovation, but not at the expense of American jobs or personal freedoms. We heard from industry experts who reinforced the need for smart, responsible AI policies that cut taxpayer costs, boost government efficiency, and serve the American people.
Joe Biden's administration took a regulation-first approach that stifled innovation and discouraged the responsible use of AI. House Republicans and President Trump are committed to getting AI policy right by fostering a balance that keeps America safe, competitive, and in control of its technological future.

This week, I joined my friend John Solomon on Just the News to discuss the Big Beautiful Bill Act, a critical effort to prevent the looming tax hike on hardworking Americans.
If we don’t act, the expiration of President Trump's Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will mean a 24% tax hike for Wisconsin’s Sixth District. This bill is our last chance to preserve those tax cuts and keep more money in your pocket.
While I believe improvements can be made to cut more wasteful spending, like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, which too often benefits wealthy developers instead of the Americans who need assistance, this bill is a major step in the right direction.
I’m confident our colleagues in the Senate, including Wisconsin’s own Senator Ron Johnson, will make the necessary changes to make this bill even better and more beautiful for hardworking Americans.
