When I announced my campaign for United States Senate one year ago today, I explained that our country was at a crossroads and that now was the time for all of us to answer the call to serve.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of talking with North Carolinians all over the state — from Murphy in the west to Manteo in the east. Even as we’ve shifted to virtual town halls and events on Zoom, we’ve continued to spread our vision for how we move this state forward.

I am so proud of the campaign we’re building together and excited to say we’re in a strong position to win this election in November.

I was born and raised in North Carolina, so I understand the challenges and opportunities our state faces every day — I’ve lived them my whole life.

I was called to serve our state early in my life and was one of the youngest elected state senators in North Carolina at the age of 27. While in office, I fought hard for critical education priorities like smaller class sizes, teacher pay increases, and support for our universities and community colleges. I was also a leading advocate for landmark clean air legislation, land preservation efforts, and campaign finance reform.

After 9/11, I volunteered to join the Army Reserves and served three active duty tours, including overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan — only to come home and see our democracy and our voting rights under attack right here in North Carolina.

I’ve been fighting my whole life to move our state and our country forward, and I’m not about to stop now. The past year has reinforced my love for North Carolina, and I’ve seen firsthand the resiliency that defines us.

But I need to know you’re still on my side in this fight just as Mitch McConnell and Thom Tillis rally hard to protect this seat in the final months of this election.
