The Trump administration took aim at something core to Maryland’s future: our public universities, our scientific research, and our students.

• They’ve cut funding for critical STEM diversity programs—the very initiatives that uplift women, students of color, and people with disabilities in science and engineering.
• They’ve slashed support for indirect research costs, threatening the labs, facilities, and resources that world-class institutions like UMBC, Bowie State, and the University of Maryland rely on to drive innovation.

At UMBC alone, we’ve already lost nearly $5 million in programs designed for underrepresented students and researchers. Bowie State University also lost three major programs, including ones that helped more Black men become STEM teachers and supported graduate students.
