Friend, I grew up in a Brooklyn neighborhood filled with working families just like mine.

I didn't grow up with power or privilege. But I grew up with public schools, with libraries, and with parks. I grew up in a community that looked out for one another, even when no one else would.

I spent my childhood escaping the summer heat in the cool quiet of our local library, reading about worlds I wanted to help build. I saw firsthand how policies and systems could fail entire communities, especially when no one in power was willing to speak up.

So I decided I would be that voice.

When I became New York’s attorney general – the first Black woman elected statewide in New York history – I didn’t take that title lightly. I took it as a responsibility. I promised to protect the most vulnerable, to hold the most powerful accountable, and to never, ever back down from doing what’s right.

I’ve gone after corporations that put profit before people. I’ve stood up for reproductive freedom, immigrant families, LGBTQ+ youth, and workers across our state. And yes – I’ve held Donald Trump and his administration accountable in court.

But I don’t do this work for headlines. I do it for every kid sitting in a public library dreaming about what’s possible. For every family struggling to make ends meet. For every New Yorker who needs someone in their corner.
