Friend,
You don’t have to look far to see that policing, the drug war, and racism are deeply intertwined.
People of color are more likely to be stopped, searched, arrested, convicted, and harshly sentenced for drug law violations.
Black people are more likely to be killed by law enforcement than other racial or ethnic groups.
All too often drugs have been used as an excuse for police brutality. The drug war has always been a tool of racial oppression and we need your help to stop it.
Drug involvement, either real or assumed, has served as a dangerous excuse to abuse, incarcerate, and even murder people of color in this nation. It’s because of the drug war that we have police forces with weapons and SWAT training that killed Breonna Taylor. As George Floyd drew his last breath after one police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes, another taunted “don’t do drugs, kids” to the gathered crowd.
The Drug Policy Alliance needs your support to end the racist drug war and build alternatives grounded in science, compassion, health, and human rights. Drugs should never be an excuse to target, assault, and kill Black people. There is no excuse.
In solidarity,
Drug Policy Alliance
